About Me
Welcome,
My name is Sally Gartell and I have over 40 years of dance experience in Ballet, Tap, Modern & Performance. I hold teaching qualifications from The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, I.S.T.D. I hold a current DBS disclosure and I am fully insured to teach.
I grew up and was educated in Cheltenham Gloucestershire. I started dancing at the age of two, however it didn't all come naturally! As a child I was quite clumsy and uncoordinated but my dancing helped correct this. I've always loved to dance but didn't always have the confidence to show it off to others, this was another aspect that improved throughout my years of dancing.
As a child I thoroughly enjoyed being involved with the annual pantomimes working alongside some fairly well known stars of the time, this really helped build my confidence and performance skills and was great fun too, It also helped with many other aspects in my life. I continued to dance until I was 18 working through both I.S.T.D & R.A.D grade and major examinations in classical ballet,. tap & modern theatre. as well as many competitive dance festivals.
In 2000 I started working towards my teaching qualifications and began teaching at the reputable Janet Marshall School of Dancing in Cheltenham, where I taught for 6 years gaining much experience. During this time I also spent a short while at the In Steps Dance Studios in Ludlow, teaching children and adults the I.S.T.D syllabus's; as well as choreographing festival dances.
From 2002 to 2012 I was teaching at The Hereford Ballet School where I taught modern, tap & ballet I entered students for examinations with the I.S.T.D; as well as choreographing group dances for several festivals & dance competitions throughout the year. There was also a bi annual dance show which was great fun involving the whole school at the local theatre. I was also very privileged to be able to choreograph several dances that were performed in front of HRH The Queen.
I am focused on ensuring I personally maintain the highest levels and knowledge by attending courses to keep updated with the continually changing syllabus.
My aim is to create a happy, fun yet focused environment where students will gain a huge sense of achievement through their work continually building their confidence, teaching them skills that will be used not just in dance but throughout their lives.
