Welcome to
'A Summer Spectacular'

Today we are celebrating 12 happy years of our dance academy.  Our school started out with just a handful of children back in 2012.
I started in Worthen Village Hall with just a few classes each week and soon I was looking to expand into other areas.  Not being from the area originally, I wasn’t sure of the best place to be. I looked around a few halls then came across Montgomery Activity Centre, and this is where it all really started to grow.
I fell in love with Montgomery, the welcoming people, the fabulous scenery and of course the wonderful children.
Over the years I have increased the classes as the school has grown and moved into other areas in the response to demand and interest.
I now hold over 30 classes at 3 venues over 6 days each week.
I am so grateful to each and every student and parent that has walked through the doors.

Three of my senior students who have been with me almost from the beginning,  will be off on to their next chapter. Catrin McDougal, Cerys Jones & Marianne Despres-Davies. Girls I cannot express how much you mean to me, thankyou for being you xx
There will be many tears from me!!
These girls have not only been students, but they have also been class assistants, helping out with the younger children each week and in the holidays. They have helped me so much in the run up to the show with ideas and suggestions of how things should run. They have always worked so hard achieving great results in all their exams.  As they’ve got older, they have been there to help out with dancing and social events, always giving up their time without a second thought.  They will be firmly missed but will always remain friends wherever life takes them.

All of our students were invited to take part in the show, so we have students from 2.5 years up to our seniors at 18 years of age.
Our adult groups weren’t quite so brave but maybe next time!

What's next for our leavers?

As mentioned earlier we are sadly losing three of our senior students who will be off to exciting adventures ahead. Here is a little about what they had to say.

Catrin Mcdougal
' I have been dancing with Sally for almost 13 years and I currently dance 4 evenings a week. Dance has been part of my life from a very young age and because of that I have become very good friends with the people I dance with.
Whilst looking at universities I always made sure to check out the dance studios as well as the course to ensure that I can continue to dance, however this will be very strange with other people as we are all so close.
I am hoping to go on to study Theoretical Physics at Durham University in September.
I believe I will never lose the friendships I have made at Sally Gartell Academy of Dance.'

Cerys Jones
'I will be heading off to Cardiff Met university to study Sports Media. The dream is to hopefully be able to work in the F1 or football industry.
I've been dancing with Miss Sally for  over 10 years and its been the best years of my life. Its flown by so quickly, hopefully I can continue to dance at uni.'

Marianne Despres-Davies
'In September, I will be moving to France to begin the next chapter of my life. I will be volunteering in Paris with the French Red Cross. supporting homeless people and those in long term unemployment.
I have been dancing with Sally for 10 years and have loved every single moment. I have made the best memories with the best friends and I know that leaving will be one of the most difficult things I have had to do.
I am so excited for my future and hope to continue dancing alongside my volunteering and in the years to come.'

Thank You xx

Thankyou to each and every parent for entrusting me with your children, thankyou for all your support and of course thankyou for watching our show today!!

As a dance school principal I run my dance school by myself, I teach all the lessons and do all the behind the scenes work too, but I could not run a show of this size on my own.
I want to say a massive thankyou to each and every person that has helped out in some way.
I won't write all the names down for fear of missing somebody out but I will mention those who played a large part in the proceedings.

Dianne Crane, my very good friend always by my side providing help, support, encouragement and cups of tea as well as being my side of stage helper.
Laura Davies,  keeping backstage running smoothly.
Maddie Griffiths, Ex SGAD Student who came back to see us all & help out being my runner.
Katie Wills, A last minute helper who was invaluable in keeping all the children in the right place at the right time.
Sam Wills, daughter danced with us many years ago and we are still in touch today, with her teaching assistant experience managing all the younger students.
Kate Emberton, a good friend who offered to take charge of our tiniest students with her wealth of experience as Montgomery pre school teacher.
Leanne Williams, Student & fabulous friend in charge of running & rallying for our raffle, raising funds for the Little Hearts Matter charity.
Hannah Colley, One of my best friends always helping out and supporting me through everything, keeping the senior girls in check.
Dominic Gartell, or Mr Sally as some call him, My fabulous husband , general dogs body in charge of First Aid should we need it, and anything Technical that's too tricky for my brain to fathom.
Jean Gartell, my wonderful Mum in law always there to help out particularly with all things costume related.
Molly Wheeler, my gorgeous niece keeping the running order running.
Sandra & Simon Wheeler, my ever supportive parents around for every event being my biggest cheerleaders and just there for whatever they may be able to help with.
Adam Cusack, our amazing photographer always going out of his way to ensure he captures the very best shots for us to treasure.
And Lastly......
Natasha Davies, The best friend a girl could find. Stage manager on this occasion as well as proof reading documents, helping with planning, and just generally being there to talk things through, and run ideas by when I needed her.

Thankyou all so much xxxx

'Little Hearts Matter'

Picture
We are proudly supporting  ‘Little Hearts Matter’ charity.
We have chosen this charity as a very good friend and student whose daughter attended our school for many years was born with a heart defect. This charity has supported her throughout her life and without fundraising support, they would not exist. This is what Leanne had to say.

Little Hearts Matter, where do I start! They have been an endless support unit to us with invaluable knowledge of Congenital Heart defects every step of the way, from even before Madeline was born. The day her condition was confirmed way back in November 2006, the scariest day of our lives, we had no clue really what we had been told, the medical terminology was so beyond us, it was like a foreign language. Little hearts have been there for us from that day on, firstly by helping us to understand her condition and absorb all the information and allow us to understand what the future was to hold for us as a family, as at this time we had a 2-year-old also.
With all the families that they support, if there's a question you need answering there's always an amazing heart warrior parent at the end of a phone line or an email. We are all there for each other.
We are all at different stages of our journey. Madeline is now moving into the adult services, again Little Hearts Matter are there to assist with the transition.
The information available is vast, whether it's keeping your heart warrior child warm, starting school, having their ears pierced or learning to drive, the first port of call is always Little Hearts Matter for us. Not to mention Travel insurance, the dentist, filling in forms and what they can and can't take if they have a fever, things most families take for granted.
Along with all the boring practical things, they organise get-togethers around the country and activity breaks for all abilities so that the children and young adults can meet others with similar heart conditions. Little Hearts  Matter are there for you.
Our young person, Madeline may have half a heart, but certainly does not have half a life!!
Little Hearts Matter is run and funded solely by charitable donations and fantastic fundraising!
Our lives would have been so much harder, and our knowledge wouldn't be what it is without Little Hearts Matter at the end of the phone, day or night.
They are amazing and they are constantly moving with the times and the medical technology, we would not be where we are today without them.
Thank you Little Hearts Matter ♥
